Playing Music With Rhapsody

Tracks are available to play from virtually every area of Rhapsody.

How do I play music here?

CDs

Play commercial or custom (burned) CDs with Rhapsody:

  1. Insert a CD in your CD drive.

  2. Click the CD name in the Sources area.

  3. When the CD view of the Display area opens, click at the top of the Display area.

  • Select Repeat    in the Rhapsody Player Controls to play the tracks in the CD over and over again, until you choose to stop it.

  • Select Shuffle to play the tracks on the CD in random order. Repeat and Shuffle can be used together or separately.

Channel Guide

Rhapsody offers a large variety of Rhapsody Channels and live radio stations organized by genre (type or category; for example: rock, classical, or rap), as well as artist channels that highlight specific artists.

  • Click the Channel Guide tab in the Music Guide pages to open the Channel Guide.
     

  • Click next to any Rhapsody Channel or live radio station to begin listening.

With the appropriate membership, you can even create customized Rhapsody Channels that conform to your specific tastes.

Music Guide

The Rhapsody Music Guide gives you access to over two million streaming tracks.

  • When you are signed in, click next to any track or album in the Music Guide to play it.

Note: You must have the appropriate membership to play unlimited streaming music from the Music Guide. A Rhapsody-Free membership will give you 25 free plays per month.

My Channels

You can save channels in My Channels for easy access later. Drag and drop Rhapsody Channels and live radio stations from the Channel Guide to My Channels in the Sources area to save them, or click add button beside the Channel name in the Channel Guide.

 

To play a channel or live radio station from My Channels:

  • Click My Channels in the Sources area to view your channels.
     

  • Double-click any Channel or radio station name to play it.

My Library

My Library contains all the tracks you have added to your collection.

  • Double-click any track in My Library to play it.

  • Click at the top of the Library view of the Display area to play your entire Library.

Note: To play multiple, non-contiguous tracks from the Library, select the tracks you want and then drag and drop them into Now Playing.  (See Now Playing, below.)

Now Playing

Now Playing shows tracks you have recently played from the Music Guide and Playlist Central, and tracks that are queued up to be played.

  • Double-click any item in the Now Playing list to start playing from that point.

You can use the Shuffle and Repeat buttons with the Now Playing list if you wish.

Playlist Central

Use Playlist Central, an online community, to listen to playlists published by other Rhapsody users, as well as by celebrities, musicians, and Rhapsody editors. With the appropriate membership, you can add playlists from Playlist Central to your collection.

  • Click next to any playlist to play it.

  • Click to add the playlist to your collection in the Playlists area, or drag and drop the playlist name to the Playlists area.

Playlists

Playlists are groups of tracks that you have saved, or added from Playlist Central or the Dynamic Playlists page.  Think of a playlist as a virtual album.

  • From the Playlists area (below the Sources area), drag and drop a playlist to Now Playing to begin playback.

  • From a playlist view of the Display area, click to begin playback from the start of the playlist.

You can also choose to double-click any track in the playlist to play just that track.
 

You can use the Shuffle and Repeat buttons while playing a playlist if you wish.

Portable Device view of the Display Area

If you connect a portable player or device to Rhapsody, you can play tracks from the device:

  1. Connect your device to your computer while Rhapsody is running.

  2. Click the portable device name in the Sources area. The portable device view of the Display area will open.

  3. Double-click any track name in the Tracks view or in a playlist to play that track.

    or:

  1. Drag and drop groups of tracks to Now Playing to play them.

Rhapsody File Menu

You can play tracks from your hard drive(s) from the Rhapsody menus.

Note: If you select File > Add Tracks to My Library, you can add the music from your hard drives to My Library, where you can organize and access it easily.
