Because tracks are only shortcuts, you can freely delete tracks and playlists from My Library and the Mixer without destroying any actual media files. However, you do have the option of deleting the associated files for purchased tracks, Imported CD tracks, and non-Rhapsody downloads. Go to Tools > Preferences: My Library in the Rhapsody Menus to choose whether you want confirmation before deleting any track from My Library, and whether you want the associated file deleted from your hard drive.
To delete a track from My Library or the Mixer, select the track(s) you wish to delete and press [DELETE] on your keyboard.
If you are deleting tracks from My Library and you have selected Ask for confirmation when deleting... in My Library Preferences, a "Confirm track deletion" dialog will appear. You can select Also delete tracks from my hard drive from that dialog if you want to delete the associated file from your computer (Default: not selected). Click Yes to delete the track(s), or Cancel.
Warning: If you do not have Ask for confirmation when deleting... selected but you do have Remove tracks from my hard drive when I delete selected in My Library Preferences, any local track you delete will have its associated file removed from your hard drive without confirmation or warning.
Note: You will never be asked for confirmation before deleting track(s) from the Mixer.
To delete a track from
a playlist, expand My Playlists
( 
) in the Source List, and
click any playlist to view it in the Display
Area. From the Display Area, select the track(s) you wish to delete,
and press [DELETE] on your keyboard.
Note: You cannot delete tracks from, or add tracks to, My New Tracks ( 
).
To delete a playlist or Instant Playlist, expand My Playlists in the Source List, select the playlist you wish to delete, and press [DELETE] on your keyboard.
Note: You will never be asked for confirmation before deleting a playlist.
To delete tracks from a portable
device, plug the device into your computer. When the Portable Device
icon appears in the Source List (
), click it to view the
contents of your portable device in the Display Area. Select the track(s)
you wish to delete, and select Delete
from the Portable Device view of the Display Area, or press [DELETE]
on your keyboard.
The track(s) will be deleted only from your portable device. This does not affect the tracks in My Library.
