Use Manual Transfer to add local tracks to your portable player or device. Just add tracks to the Transfer view of the Mixer and click the Transfer button. Purchased tracks and tracks imported from CDs and your local drives will be transferred immediately.
If there are any streaming tracks in your Transfer list, the "Purchase" dialog will open, or, if you have a compatible device and the appropriate subscription, the tracks will be downloaded as subscription content and transferred, at no additional cost.
Note: You can delete files from your portable device at any time. See the "Step-by-Step," below.
Harmony™ Technology is a revolutionary digital rights management (DRM) translation system. Now you can use any online music store to purchase music for your portable player or device. Harmony™ Technology also allows you to transfer music downloaded from your Library or Music Guide to over 100 devices, including devices from Apple, Rio, Panasonic, PalmOne and more. With Harmony™ Technology, the enormous universe of internet music is yours to enjoy.
For a list of supported devices, click the Transfer tab in the Mixer (when no portable device is connected to your computer) and click View list of supported devices.
Any device with the word "subscription" next to it is Janus, or "PlaysForSure," compatible. These are the only portable players to which you can transfer subscription downloads. But keep checking the list; Rhapsody is adding more devices all the time. (See Portable Players: Formats and Transferring for more information.)
Note: Not all subscription downloads can be transferred to a portable player or device. Some artists and labels have not granted subscription transfer rights to their tracks. If you attempt to transfer a subscription download that does not have transfer rights, the "Purchase" dialog will open.
With manual transfer, you add tracks to the Transfer view of the Mixer yourself, and initiate the transfer to your portable device. Any available streaming tracks you add will initiate the "Purchase" dialog, or, with the appropriate hardware and subscription, automatically download. Any playlists you add to Transfer will be transferred as individual tracks, not as a playlist.
With Library Sync, you initiate the process from the Portable Device view of the Display Area. In your Synchronization Preferences, you can choose to transfer the entire local contents of My Library, including playlists, to your portable device. The streaming contents of My Library will not be downloaded or transferred. See the chart below for quick reference.
Note: If you select Overwrite the contents of the device... in your Synchronization preferences, Library Synchronization will remove existing music tracks and playlists from your portable device, but it will not touch other file types, such as photo and video files.
